Julian Slade is probably best known as the composer and
co-writer of ‘Salad Days’ and ‘Free As Air’, both of which had significant runs in London’s West End. ‘Salad Days’ broke all records for a musical at the time, running for nearly six years at the Vaudeville Theatre. ‘Free As Air’ ran for over a year at the Savoy. Productions of both shows are often staged today by professional or amateur companies.
As well as reminding you of these two shows (more details on the Shows page), the aim of this website is to introduce you to the other equally enjoyable and popular musicals and music that Julian wrote. On the Biography page you will be able to learn how some of the shows came about. On the Shows page, as well reading some story and cast details about them, you will be able to hear two or three extracts of the songs that feature in each show. You can read about the latest additions to the website on the NEWS page.
And on the Comment page you will be able to read what people thought of some of the shows at the time and what some distinguished theatre people think today. If you would like to know more, do not hesitate to make use of the Contacts page.
But first, to get a flavour of Julian's many first nights and shows, take a look at the list below. |
